Peggy DePrang
Funeral Services will be Saturday, January 7, 2017

(01/05/17 Insider Obituary Archives) - Peggy DePrang, 81, of Lubbock and formerly of Olton, passed away peacefully in her sleep, on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, in Lubbock. Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, January 7, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church in Olton with Brother Tom Carter and Mr. Kerry Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Olton Cemetery under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends at Ramage Funeral Directors in Olton from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Friday, January 6, 2017.

Peggy was born to Charles Arthur and Artie May Crump in Santa Anna, Texas on August 5, 1935, and was raised in Coleman, Texas. She graduated as the salutatorian from Coleman High School in 1952 and from Hardin Simmons University with a degree in education. Peggy married Garland DePrang on August 4, 1956 and they moved to Odessa where Garland worked for a drilling company and Peggy taught school. In 1957, Garland and Peggy moved to Olton where Garland was involved in farming and the grain business while Peggy was a homemaker. In 1976, Peggy would go into business with her sister, Patsy Mills and several other women to open the Mini Mall. Peggy also worked at the grain elevator during harvest helping out in the office. After Garland passed away in 1991, Peggy went to work selling candles representing Yankee Candle Company. After five years of traveling throughout the panhandle, south plains, and eastern New Mexico, Peggy retired and moved to Lubbock in 2004.

Peggy was a very outgoing person who loved being around people and hearing about everyone's life story. She loved to shop and could spend hours going from store to store. Attending Holiday Happenings with all her friends was a favorite as well as strolling through houses at the parade of homes in Lubbock each year. Family was very important to Peggy and she was so proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Peggy loved the town of Olton and all who lived there. She was always attending showers, weddings, funerals and anything else where she always got to visit and catch up with everyone. Peggy was a bright light every time she entered the room and always had a smile on her face. She remained a member of the First United Methodist Church in Olton even after moving to Lubbock. In her later years, Peggy dealt with many health issues but continued to attend every function she could and never complained about how she really felt. She will be missed very much by her family and the community of Olton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Garland, in 1991 and her sister, Patsy Mills Templin, in 2016.

Survivors include her son, Dwain DePrang and wife Kathy of Highland Village, and her daughter, Janet Smith of Olton. She was blessed with six grandchildren, Chris Smith, Crystal Salinas and husband Jeremy, Brett Smith, Conner and Cameron DePrang, and Cody Paris and wife Britni and four great-grandchildren, Aiden Smith, Kurt and Taelyn Salinas, and Harper Paris.

The family suggests memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church P.O. Box 1081 Olton, TX 79064 or the Olton Cemetery Association P.O. Box 1055 Olton, TX 79064.
