Leonard Schmidt
Funeral Services will be Monday, June 25, 2018

(06/23/18 Insider Obituary Archives) - Leonard Schmidt, 86 of Lubbock passed away in his home Thursday, June 21, 2018. Leonard was born in Custer County, Oklahoma on June 15, 1932 to David P. and Bertha Schmidt. Leonard was the youngest of five children; three brothers, Ewald, Herb, and Arthur; and one sister, Annie Harder.

After graduating high school in 1950, Leonard moved to the Hereford, Texas area and went to work farming for the Andrews family where he met his future wife, Virginia "Ginger" Brock. From 1952-1954, Leonard served in the U.S. Army stationed in Fort Benning, Georgia. Leonard married Ginger July 10, 1955 at Frio Baptist Church. They had three children, Brent, Sheryl, and David.

Through the years Leonard's family grew to include eight grandchildren, Amy Perez, Veronica Luna, Theresa Rogers, David Gazarian, Jeremy Schmidt, Corey Schmidt, Brock Schmidt, William Schmidt; twelve great-grandchildren, Courtney Slater, Jaylynn Luna, Justin Luna, Ashtyn Perez, Zayne Perez, Bailey Rogers, Luke Rogers, Sage Schmidt, Harper Schmidt, Devin Gazarian, Emma Gazarian, Kylea Gazarian; two and a half great-great-grandchildren, Finn Slater, Kaleb Ellis, and Jordyn (coming soon).

Leonard is survived by his wife, Ginger; his children, Brent, Sheryl and husband Lupe Canales, and David and Tammy Schmidt.

He was preceded in death by both parents; his brothers and sisters; and a daughter-in-law, Tamie Schmidt.

Visitation will be from 2:00 - 6:00 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2018 at Combest Family Funeral Homes. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 25, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Shallowater with burial to follow at the Hale Center Cemetery.
