Thursday, October 25th
*Police responded to a call of "LOUD MUSIC" in the 200th Block of West 13th Street. The music was turned down. The chief told us that these calls are both complaints and occasionally just observations by the officers on patrol - so just because your neighbor may like your loud music doesn't mean you can not still be reprimanded. So there!
*Officers aided "CPS on an Agency Assist" in the vicinity of the 500th Block of East 2nd Street. Later in the same day CPS returned for two more cases that HCPD assisted them with in their investigation.

In the 700th Block of Main Street some kids were reported to have been "Messing Around" at City Hall. No one was caught Messing Around
*Police were called to the 200th Block of West 3rd Street on a 911 call. Nothing was out of the ordinary so the call was dismissed.
*Officers were called to the 1200th Block of Avenue G for a "Domestic Disturbance." The chief says there are a LOT of these kind of calls in our little town. If you know of someone being physically or verbally abused...tell somebody! Let's get a STOP put to this crapola!
*Police sought after a "Suspicious Person" at Caudle Lake Park but didn't find any offenders.
Police were called to the 500the Block of East 4th Street for "Criminal Mischief." The brand and or flavor of mischief was not reported in this report. (Color anyone??? Can someone provide some color to these reports?)

In the 500the Block of East 3rd Street a "Criminal Trespass" warning was issued. "Keep Your Butt Away from HERE!"
Friday, October 19th
*HCPD participated with FDHC and EMS at Akin Elementary for a Student "Smoke Out" from about 8:30AM till about 12:30PM with over 200 students learning fire safety. It really Burns Us UP that we weren't notified about this in time to have gone. ;-)
*HCPD investigated some "Kids Riding in the Back of a Pick-Up." Turns out they were over 18 and not subject to getting in trouble. (What? No seatbelt laws in pick-up beds?) Make sure if you ride in back of a pick-up (or ANYWHERE in Lubbock) you were a helmet!
*A call about a "Reckless Driver" on I-27 was investigated, but no probable cause for a stop was found.

*HCPD investigated a "Dog-at-Large" in the 600th Block of East Cleveland. It is not known if the dog-at-large is indeed a large dog or an un-sized canine...on the lamb. Being politically correct is getting to be a bigger and bigger journalistic event!
*From the hand-written report the chief tried to make out whether a "Boy" or a "Bag" was removed by the officer on duty - from Southbound I-27. Either way, whatever was in the roadway was removed and no one was arrested, assaulted or otherwise ostracized.
*Officers removed an "Unwanted Person" from the 500th Block of West 1st Street. There is no charge for this service but it does attract public scrutiny.
Wednesday, October 17th
*Officers were called about some "People on my Roof!!!" No roof-dwellers were found and officers resumed whatever officers usually do while not searching local roofs for strangers.
*Police received a complaint about a "Stolen Vehicle" but it turns out the alleged Hot Rod incident was outside of town so it was referred to the Hale County Sheriff's Department.
*FM37 West - about two miles out, had a "1 Vehicle Accident" where HCPD assisted DPS & County responders.
*Officers received some "Suspicious Meat" at the station - that someone thought might was gonna be used to poison an animal. Since the meat was bagged in a sealed storage container it was determined that either a cat had dragged it from a dumpster or the possible scoff-law wanting to poison an animal...wasn't very efficient or bright!
*Officers worked a "Civil Problem" in the 700th Block of Main Street - where they also performed a "Motorist Assist."
*HCPD performed a "Motorist Assist" on I-27 Southbound.
Sunday, October 14th

*Officers made a "Welfare Check" in the 300th Block of West 1st Street. Everything was 10-4,
*In the 500th Block of West 13th Street officers made a "Vehicular Curfew Check..." Even the chief wasn't sure what that meant. Maybe a "Late Model" car was out too late?!?!
Friday, October 12th
*Officers worked a "Horse in Town" case in the 500th Block of West 5th Street. A warning was issued, but the chief wasn't certain if the warning was for the horse or the rider!
This Weeks
Fugitive of the Week
is revealed by the Chief himself! Click the Green "PLAY" Button
Wednesday, October 10th
*Officers worked a couple of "Truancy Issues" a few "Traffic Stops" and spent several hours at the department Headquarters taking part in a Standardized Field Sobriety Testing School...complete with glazed donuts just like they have in the bigger cities.
Tuesday, October 9th
*Officers gave an escort for a funeral to the cemetery.
*Police investigated a "Class B Misdemeanor" where one of our infamous, former Fugitives of the Week had allegedly stolen over 27,000 gallons of the City's water without paying for it! Seems the landlord went to kick them out for non-payment of rent...and discovered - LOW, there is water service here and the landlord KNEW for a fact it wasn't legally turned on! The subject doesn't know it yet (Unless of course you're reading this...) - But if it's you....Buddy, this just ain't your day!
*HCPD gave yet another escort to a person who was "removed" from a rehab in Lubbock and was going "home" to Amarillo, via their thumb. Officers found it in everyone's best interest to hasten his journey so he was "Leap-Frogged" from one vehicle to the next, county-by-county until he was closer to his destination...or at least a good ways out of HERE! Didn't know they did that sort of thing did ya!?!.
Monday, October 8th
*A Hale County Deputy Sheriff came to HCPD with a warrant for a Hale Center Resident. It was learned that the "Wanted Person" - was with her boyfriend/husband who was looking for a job at the time. The officers sneakily called the subject posing anonymously, simply asking that they come to the gin. Supposing there might be a job for "Joe" the couple went to the gin where "Ms. Joe" was aptly apprehended and carted to the local pokey. In a strange stroke of judicial good fortune, the curious, indeed resourceful lawmen ran a check on the "Joe" and found him to be - as his sweetheart was - also wanted by the law. He too was pokey-ized. Unfortunately for the couple, the jails are not co-ed and they were not rooming together after the arrests.
*Officers received - at the station, a "Disorderly Conduct by Language" incident that allegedly took place at the grocery store. Disorderly Conduct by Language is better known to you and me as getting supposedly, "Cussed Out in Public!" The named, accused person will be summoned to court where they'll be afforded opportunity to tell their side of the story, sans-expletives, of coarse and a judge will disperse justice.
*Police investigated several "Truancy Checks.".
*Police looked for a reported "Reckless Driver." on I-27 Southbound. After driving at excessively dangerous speeds for extended periods of time, with eyes peeled in all directions at once...the (Original) Reckless Driver was not found!!! Go figure!
*Officers were called to the West Service Road and Cleveland for a "Motorist Assist." A wheel, it seems, had fallen off of a vehicle. Being originally designed to perform optimally with 4 wheels, the crippled vehicle was nudged to a nearby parking lot where it sat tranquilly until proper repairs could be made.
*Police were called about someone being "Suspiciously Followed." on I-27 into town.. After finding the follow-er, they were questioned and determined that "she" indeed had followed the complainant into town. As it turns out, it is the same subject who had earlier in the day been accused of "cussing someone out at the store!" There'll no doubt be more to come!
*Officers were called to the Middle School about the "Theft of a Mobile Phone" from a student by another student. The Principal got to the bottom of the situation, found the phone and we believe the guilty party was suspended for theft of a cell phone. Can you hear me now? Huh?.
Sunday, October 7th
*Officers offered "Motorist Assist" at Cleveland and the West Service Road.
*Police responded to a "LOUD MUSIC" call at 9th Street and Avenue K. The music was turned OFF and peace and quiet resumed....till the darn train came through!

Thursday, October 4th
*Police were called about a "Disturbance" in the 500th Block of West 13th Street. An argument had escalated at the ball game - Officers broke things up and sent one party packing.
*Police performed an "Agency Assist with the Constable" in the 700th Block of Avenue K. Seems to have been a "Possession" charge...not sure what the case had possession of though...
*Officers were investigating the "Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle." in the 200th Block of 13th Street. Seems someone had thought his car was re-possessed but the financier said they did NOT repossess it....so the potential victim reported the vehicle stolen. Hummm, could be the perfect crime if everybody buys it!
*Police worked a "Minor 10-50" in the 500th Block of West 5th Street. Better known as a "Fender Bender" it seems one car backed into another that was illegally parked. There were no arrests or imprisonments.
Wednesday, October 3rd
*Officers worked a code enforcement violation in the 300th Block of East 9th Street where a person had some "Unlawful, Exotic Animals" in the city limits... More specifically, A Miniature Pony, Some Ducks & Some Chickens. As we inquired further the chief explained they WERE considered exotic with the possible exception of the chickens which could qualify as legal if their owner had them when the law was passed - forbidding them in the city - or "Grand fathering them." Ladies & Gentlemen, I implore you - me finds this discriminatory action against my poultry to be FOWL! Old McDonald was warned and the varmints in question shall be cast without the limits of the village! He went on to sternly warn the Easter Bunny to stay out of town, told Santa he'd better have a door-to-door permit and an inspection sticker on his sleigh if he comes back to town under his watch! I questioned his lack of leniency and he just wiped the fried chicken crumbs from his mustache and said, "I doesn't makes the laws...I just enforces them!"
*Police performed a "Motorist Assist" in the 400th Block of South Main Street..
*Police dug into a "Sewer Leak" in the 1300th Block of Avenue J which they promptly "passed" on to the department of water...thank you very much!
*Officers responded to a 911 call where a man reported a "Missing Wallet." He later reported there was something missing from the "soon-to-be discovered" wallet. Seems the subject was rather heartily celebrating his birthday and officers determined it to be in everyone's best interest to NOT file any paperwork until the next day after the jubilation had an opportunity to pass. The subject slept it off and had no more complaints about his wallet or the contents and/or lack there of. "Happy Belated Birthday, Sir!"

*Officers dealt with an individual AT THE STATION who desired to file a "Disorderly Conduct by Gesture" incident. If you don't know for sure what that is...LOOK AT THIS! No complaint got filed...
Sunday, September 30th
*Officers Re-checked into the same "Verbal Disturbance" as reported yesterday in the 200th Block of West 13th Street. Seems one or both parties remembered some other stuff they really wish they could have thought of to say at the time of the original argument! A good reason to always make notes before a verbal dispute.
*Police worked a "Civil Matter" in the 200th Block of East 1st Street. Seems a mother & daughter were at disagreement over cash AND car keys. Between the actual juveniles in truancy and the adult juveniles with civil and domestic disturbances...our officers hardly have time to hide behind billboards and ticket the passing out-of-town, motorists like other cops in other little towns!
*In the 500th Block of West 10th Street Officers took care of a "LOUD MUSIC" complaint that was aptly silenced.

Tuesday, September 25th
*Officers delivered 3 "School Notices..." THIS reporter did not realize that now-a-days (at least in Hale Center) the local Police Force are utilized to inform parents that the kiddos are about to get a "Bustin'" at school the next day! Boy, that would not have been popular in my day! With ME anyway!!!
Monday, September 24th
*Police investigated a case of "Dog Chasing A Cat" in the 1300th Block of Main Street. Now we understand why the City & State send our Police Chiefs to Specialty Law Enforcement classes. The owner of the dog was swatted with a rolled up copy of "The American" and his dog was instructed to attend FFA..."Feline Friends Anonymous" Classes - and that cats are Friends not prey!
Chief Burton is out this week attending "Police Chief School" in Lubbock. Regularity will be restored to the reports when he returns or when more bran is inserted into the data...whichever comes first.

*Officers escorted the OWLS out of town to aptly put the proverbial "Butt Whoopin'" on Olton.
*Police investigated a case of "Criminal Mischief" in the 1200th Block of Main Street where a 2013 Ford Mustang was KEYED! It is not known who done the deed...but if we find out - and they're old enough...WE'D LOVE TO PUBLISH THEIR NAME!!!
This Weeks Fugitive of the Week is revealed by the Chief himself! Click the Green "PLAY" Button
Thursday, September 20th
*Police advised a driver of a tractor-trailer in the 400th Block of West 11th that, "Ya can't park that thing thar, fella!" The truck was moved to a more choice location.
*In the 300th Block of West 1st Street officers checked into an "Abandoned Vehicle." The abandoned vehicle was cheered up and assured that there's someone for everyone and that they should be patient and not just hook up with any old ride that comes along. (Get it? Abandoned Vehicle...feelings of abandonment.... Hahahahah!)
*In the 300th Block of West 10th Street officers investigated a "Suspicious Person." After arriving and asking the prescribed questions from the Questions Policemen ask Suspicious Persons - Handbook the suspicious person in question was deemed to be 10-4.

Wednesday, September 19th

"COME AND GET IT!!"
*Our Police Chief arrested an "Outdated Spouse" who had turned in his vows in exchange for a restraining order a couple of years back. When said expired spouse tried to interrupt guests at the ex's home, she advised law enforcement who, in turn demonstrated the nuts & bolts of how a restraining order indeed functions. "He's in the jail-house now!"

Tuesday, September 18th
*Police received a report of last week's "Fugitive of the Week" being in the City Park! (With friends like his...huh?) Anyway, when officers arrived he had already gone - IF he was indeed there in the first place. The chief said had he been there, or should any FOTW be seen anywhere and local officers identify him/her - they will be arrested, placed in handcuff and hauled off to the pokey until they pay their warrants! DUDE!
*In the 100th Block of West 10th Street officers responded to a report of "Domestic Abuse" where a male subject beat a female. Officers have initiated an investigation and hope to get enough evidence and testimony to put this guy away!
*Police Chief Burton spent most of his day yesterday "Enforcing Code" for the City of Hale Center. The moral of today's report...should there be one to garner - would be; If you have warrants in Hale Center...DON'T be silly enough to Break City Code too!!! Mow you lawns and get those broken-down vehicles out of town...ESPECIALLY if you're name is already on the proverbial "Poop List!" Thank you and Good Day!! :-)

*In the 300th Block of West 13th Street our officers had a call about a dog that needed to be picked up! Seems there had been an agreement about custody of the dog after a domestic incident - but the dog was NOT taken, as discussed. The dog was quoted as saying, "Hey! What about me!?" SMH
*Police were called to the local convenience store about "Some Guys Trying to Steal Some Merchandise." The suspected culprits had already "Cheesed It" once officers arrived.
*Officers responded to a report of a "Suspicious Vehicle" in the 500th Block of West 1st Street. Nothing came of that one!
*Police made another call to the local convenience store - but the chief could not make out what the officer had reported in his log. Since we are fairly certain that it was not an "Armed Robbery In Progress with a Potential Hostage Situation" we'll likely just go on to the next day's report. Thank you very much!

Sunday, September 16th
*Police responded to a call of "LOUD MUSIC" in the 600th Block of Main Street. The folks at the address replied, "Huh? What'd ya say, Officer?" After the complaint was effectively relayed to the head-bangers, they cheerfully obliged by turning the music down.

*Police made a "Disciplinary Notice" which is a written notice to parents that their kiddo is about to get a "bustin'" the next day at school! I had no idea that was how they do it these days. The parents have the option of coming and spending the day at the school with the kids in lew of their devious spawn's spanking, or letting it rip - so to speak. When I was a kid...if daddy got word that I had licks at school - I got an encore when I got home! AND, many were the times my teachers & principals worked over their old tennis swings on my meager backside, so I learned early to take my medicine and keep it on the down low. And - I might add...a lot of fat good it did any of 'em to spank me! I don't know that my character was improved, but I DO still look forward to a brisk swat when Sally's in the mood. (TMI has been brought to you by Kudo Granola Bars, "Get one of those in his mouth and shut him up -- QUICK!!")

*Officers took a call about another "Stray Dog" in the 300th Block of West 14th Street. THIS IS SERIOUS BIDNESS... The dog was taken to the pound. Stray dogs only get 3 or 4 days in town here then they are transported to Plainview where they are "Put Down!" Again, PLEASE keep you dogs restrained!
*Police made several more truancy checks as some of the kids just don't see the value in today's "Book Larnin'!" GO TO SCHOOL!!!

The weapon turned out to be a BB gun that he almost had to eat! Authorities were called and the suspect was taken into custody and eventually turned over to the Juvenile Detention Facilities in Lubbock. *Officers were called about some "Keys Someone had left in a Box at the Post Office." Our highly-trained, most capable officers read the name of the owner on the tag and promptly solved yet another case.

The 8-year-old child was in front of a relative's home and went to "go after a ball."
A man approached the child, offered him/her candy and then instructed him/her to get in his van before they "got in trouble." The vehicle was a full-sized white, passenger van with windows. The suspect is a White Male, described as; about 6 feet tall, with short hair and a bushy beard. He was wearing sunglasses and a baseball cap with a black, sleeveless shirt and blue jeans. The cap had writing on the front AND back of it and the suspect reportedly had a "Skull" tattoo on one of his shoulders. The child was NOT harmed.
Several possible suspects and sex-offenders in the area have been interviewed and cleared so this is an ongoing investigation.
The Chief stressed the importance of establishing a password of some kind for your children to know if anyone ever tries to approach them. He also points out that as unlikely as this kind of thing seems in our little town, we are still a town on a major Interstate. It could as likely have been someone passing though as a local offender.
Meanwhile, please be on the watch for the person and vehicle described and remain alert. If you have any information please contact HCPD at: 806-839-4450

Taken was a large Screen TV, Some games & game consoles and miscellaneous items totaling over $1500.00. The officer began to canvas neighbor's residences to see if anyone had seen anything when he came across one neighbor who acted suspiciously. The officer used some of his keenly developed, professional skills to smoke out enough "probable cause" to make his way into the suspect's residence and - sure enough discover the aforementioned loot and/or booty! The victims have not yet determined to file charges and the officer is to meet with the subject later today. The suspect is said to be a male around 25 years old with a clean record. The "Einstein" blamed the bad decision on "Being Drunk at the Time..." He should probably hope charges aren't filed as I don't think that excuse holds precedence in our court system!

*Officers received a complaint about "Horseback Riders" inside the city limits (around 4th & Main Street.) There were no Horsemen, or Would-be Cowboys to be found. We inquired of the City Offices as to the legality of riding horses in town, and were told that indeed, it is NOT permitted, except in cases of organized events such as parades. I suppose since there is nowhere to mount a license plate and nothing that would pass as a functioning "Brake Light" the safety and proper taxing of such activity would not be feasible. So, "Thank You! - ...and the horse you better not-have rode in on!"
*Police were called about a "Vehicle Illegally Parked" on the grass at the High School. As if that wasn't obviously not a bad thing to do, the subject's car got STUCK trying to move off the grass!
*Police received a call about a "Truck Losing it's Load" on the Interstate (The actual fear of the horses on our streets...) but officers found neither a "Un-loaded Truck" nor a non-trucked load in the road. Boy! Better to write this stuff than try to SAY it!
Thursday, July 19th

*Officers deterred individuals who were going through the donations left at Mission Hale Center in the 600th Block of Avenue H. The Mission as well as HCPD request that you allow the donations to be taken in, processed and prepared for distribution. It also creates a bigger mess for volunteers when people go through the items that have been left on the dock.
*Finally, Police were called on what appeared to be an "Attempted Burglary" in the 400th Block of Avenue I, where some kids were trying to get into the Snow-Cone stand. The employee was STILL INSIDE! The would-be hoodlums were scolded and sent on their way. GOSH!

*Officers responded to a report of "Strewn Trash in the Alley" in the 200th Block of West 4th Street. There was an investigation that determined somebody had been placing trash beside the dumpster instead of INTO the dumpster. That never worked with my dirty clothes and the hamper either. Mother AND Sally always wanted my dirty drawers IN the hamper...not near it. Learn from this!
*Police were called about someone "Stealing Freon From Their Air Conditioning Unit." Indeed a rather odd complaint, but filed none the less. There were no fingerprints at the scene, but likely the culprit had gloves for such a job. Maybe if they can sell this story Insurance will cover a fresh charge.
*Officers were called about a "LIVE Body in the Street" in the 500th Block of East 4th Street. The female was passed out and EMS took her to the hospital. Officers weren't certain enough to make an official presumption, but they supposed the patient would be much better after some sleep......
*Police were called about someone "Threatening to Kick Someone Else's' Mule." in the 400th Block of East 1st Street.... Wait - huh? OH, threatening to kick their DONKEY!... Huh? One vehicle struck another sending it into the oncoming lane and then strayed itself onto the accompanying service road - BOTH lanes had to be closed temporarily sending all interstate traffic through the city. No life threatening injuries were sustained, but our local convenience store did sell a record amount of Burritos and Potato Wedges in a 30 minute period for a Friday Afternoon. "Eat Here - Get Gas!"
*Officers were called to the 300th Block of West 13th for a "Welfare Check" of sorts as the resident asked the cops to check on their dogs! Humm...wonder if I could get them to change my yard water if Sally & I go to Lubbock Saturday!?!?
*Police were called about a southbound vehicle on the Interstate, pulling a trailer that had "Sparks Coming From Underneath The Trailer!" When the vehicle was stopped they discovered that a spare tire was not properly secured. Does anyone but me imagine the Volkswagen on back of the tow truck in Every Which Way But Loose?
*Officers were called about a "Possible Drunk Driver" on the East Service Road, but the complainant had lost sight of the driver before police could arrive.
*Police received another call about a "Possible Drunk Driver" on the Interstate, but when the officers arrived and found the reported driver, they were not driving erratically anymore - so Officers did not have probable cause to pull them over.
Thursday, July 12th
*Police received a report that someone had threatened to "Thrash" their house in the 500th Block of West 6th Street. Nothing came of the threat so the aforementioned house is still un-thrashed at this time.
*Officers aided (as best they could) a citizen who came to the Police Station wanting information about their driver's license. The license in question was about to expire, but it seems the citizen in question was confused about the impending now-ness of 2012. Don't laugh...sometimes I have to count backwards from my birth year to remember how old I am!
*In the 1300th Block of Avenue G, Officers responded to the report of "Loose, Agressive" dogs. The dogs were spotted and had to be apprehended by Animal Control. In most such cases, our professional opinion is that the owner should be taken off by animal control and the dogs secured back in their own yard!!
*Police received a report of the "Smell of Weed" coming from an area in the 400th Block of 4th Street. Not knowing the nature of What Kind of Weed... officers weren't sure whether to alert Narcotics or Code enforcement! By the time police arrived the smell had dissipated. "Dude!...THAT was close!"
Wednesday, July 11th
*We wanted to start off today's report with a word from one of Hale Center's newly appointed COOs (City Ordinance Officer) - Chief Dennis Burton -- After clearing throat and leaning back with a furrowed brow... "Uhmm, not gonna have any of this here high weed growin' and un-mown grass a foulin' up our beautiful little town's...ah, uhm, well, BEAUTY. Also, it makes the skeeters worse - so let's all band together and keep the greenage (That's NOT a word!) manicured to below 6 inches. Otherwise my own self or another of the city's duty minded COO's will have to "red-flag" your property which could lead to the City Boys coming along and mowing it down at the city's appointed rates. That is all and thank you for your keen attention." Editor's Note:That wasn't REALLY a quote from the Chief - it was more of a paraphrase...'cause even with my extensive journalism experience (Almost 8 months) I'd need Dr. Hinze (Town Dentist) to translate this guy's mumble. If you're ever talking with him, just read his mustache...it's the most efficient way to garner his intended verbal projection.
*Police aided in an "Agency Assist" with EMS in the 400th Block of West 10th Street. The Assist was for Dick Shaver who suffered a Heart Episode. We spoke with Peggy this morning who said they were having lunch yesterday and she noticed him sweating a lot and he said his chest was hurting - so she called EMS. Turns out his right coronary was 100% blocked. She said they performed a procedure implanting a stint that opened up passage and got him "Out of the Woods." She also told us that there was some blockage in another artery that would be addressed in the near future. As of this publication Dick is doing very well but is still in CPU, Room 412 at the Heart Hospital in Lubbock. Peggy humbly asked for everyone's prayers and wanted to thank those who've already been praying and she said Dick would appreciate you letting his friends know that he is OK.

Tuesday, July 10th
*Police investigated and took a report of "Criminal Mischief" which had taken place at St. Theresa's Catholic Church a couple days prior. Editorial: Punk kids who mess up places of Worship should have to write the Book of Numbers on the chalk board 333 times! Officers have a suspect and plan on busting his..... Well, I Should be able to say it...it's in the Bible!
*Officers received a report of "Someone Tossing Rocks off the Overpass" at traffic below. Thing is - when this was reported the on-duty Officer was parked ON the overpass looking for speeders. "Wise Guys"
*Officers looked into a possible "Criminal Trespass" in the 200th Block of West 2nd Street where (According to the complainant) a subject took a key to look at rental property, never returned the key and then proceeded to move into the dwelling and "Squat!" The subject never turned on utilities but took up residence in the house with furnishings, clothing, etc. all without communicating with the owner after initial meeting and without paying any money! We'll keep an eye on this and see how it works.
*Police were called about a reported "Red Mustang Racing." The car was not spotted but is being watched for in case they think they can get away with it again!
*Police reported to a call of a "Suspicious Person Hanging Out" after hours in the Lowe's parking lot in the little garden area. The suspect was described as being low to the ground with a wide butt, tall ears and a rapidly twitching nose. Friday, July 6th
*Officers were called to 1100th Block of Avenue I about some "Lost Dogs" and - as we all LOVE happy endings, they turned up a short time later near the Interstate. The dogs seemed in fine condition with rapidly wagging tails and a sinister grin on their respective snouts that you NEVER wanna see on your kid!
*Police were contacted about another "Reckless Driver" on I-27 Southbound. Turned out it was just another motorist who's vehicular navigation didn't meet up to the "Next Guy's" high, driving expectations. The driver was scolded harshly and sent on his/her way. (Not really...)
*Officers were called to the 700th Block of Main Street about some "Telephone Harassment." There were no details provided on this call, and when I assume too much to make the story better somebody always accuses me of not being a very good journalist...but I are one!

*Officers responded to the 200th Block of East 13th Street about a "Theft..." The less you know of this one - the better.
*Police were called about a "Reckless Driver" Southbound on the Interstate. This one got away. Seems more and more folks are getting fed up with rude drivers as more and more they call 9-1-1 and report reckless driving and officers are dispatched. Keep that in mind if you feel you or the public-in-general could be threatened by someone's driving (Unless of course the vehicle in question is a black '97 F-150 or a White '94, Chrysler Mini Van with chrome wheels...)
*Officers responded to the 400th Block of West 4th Street about a "Civil Matter" That's the way Dennis described it, but I'm presuming it was more of an "Un-civil Matter"...Just sayin'
*Officers responded to the 500th Block of West 4th Street on a "Welfare Concern"...Everything checked out, OK. That's just when police are called because someone was concerned about someone else...or they just want to know what someone else is up to and call the cops and watch out the window to find out!
*Police were dispatched to East 14th Street and the Access Road for "Fireworks Discharged in the City." You better cut that stuff out! The Chief done told us he wasn't gonna tolerate fireworks after the 4th... Nice guy that he is - he just gave them a warning (Accompanied by the Standard-issue, HCPD "Stink-Eye!")
Wednesday, July 4th
*First things first...the Chief voiced his extreme pleasure with the Fireworks event last night at Caudle Lake Park. There a spectacular crowd that he estimated between 250 to 400 - coming and going throughout the evening. Chief Burton:"I heard some people say, the nice thing about what we did was that you got to see other people's fireworks. Ya know, if people went to Plainview or Lubbock they got to see fireworks, but they didn't got to do fireworks.""The really nice thing is at the end of the night the majority of the public went and picked up their debris and put it in the dumpster - that was so neat, I was just really impressed with the public - with them cleaning up after themselves without being asked to do so!" -- (The words of Chief Dennis Burton - HCPD)
*Police responded (as would be expected on the 4th of July) to a LOT of "Fireworks Related" calls all over town.
*Officers were called to West 1914 for "Cattle on the Road..." HEY, don't laugh, that could happen in Chicago - and it HAS happened in Dallas and Ft Worth!
*Police checked out "A Vehicle Blocking the Road" at East 6th Street and Avenue A. I inquired if it was stalled out or just parked poorly and was told someone was actually reported for parking in the street talking to someone else! THEY WOULD'T EVEN MOVE! Sounds like the Wal-Mart Parking lot! I hear you agreeing with me!
*Officers helped with a "Motorists Assist" in the 500th Block of Main Street. Apparently somebody's car stopped - don't go!
*Police investigated a "Reckless Driver" on the Interstate...but "they wuz already gone!"
*And winding up another busy day, a complainant told police they had been assaulted and their cell phone was taken away from them...which constitutes "Robbery!" Tuesday, July 3rd

*Police were called to look into a "Civil Situation" in the 100th Block of West 9th Street where someone was invited to "Hit the Road, Jack..." but Jack wasn't ready to hit the road. Officers peacefully convinced him of better times down said road.

*Officers were called to 400th Block of West 3rd about a "Suspicious SMELL".... Details weren't immediately available as to whether the smell was to be described as "musty," "poignant" or just "Downright Rank!" In any event it brings to mind when I, as a Jr. High Student - raised my hand to complain that someone had caused a foul odor in the vicinity of my desk...the quick witted, street-savvy teacher replied to my embarrassment, "The Guilty Dog Always Barks First!" (Trouble is -- She was RIGHT!)
*Police responded to the 900th Block of Main Street on another "False Alarm!!"
*And finally HCPD worked a Lot of "Code Enforcement" issues with the public, not only weeds and high grass, but a persistent problem of inoperable motor vehicles...Junk Carts! They're trying to give time and make arrangements but the City has mandated the removal of these old gems and owners can and eventually will be cited for failure to give these old cars a proper burial.
Monday, July 2nd
*Somehow despite our...and the Chief's meticulous record keeping - the breath-taking events of Monday were somehow bundled into the heart-stopping report of Sunday - which we've already lived! On to Tuesday!
Sunday, July 01st
*OK, first things first - In today's report you will see a LOT of calls about "Fireworks being Discharged" within the restricted City Limits. This is a controversial issue as a LOT of folks think they should be allowed to pop their fireworks...where a LOT of other folks are mostly concerned about the noise - since the popping is usually after 10PM and going on till after 1 or 2 in the morning. Also there has been mention of the affect on domestic pets being frightened by the popping. What do you think? The Department has NOT been citing most first offenders...should they? Should there be an allowance for popping the fireworks in town? Should those breaking the ordinance be spanked hard and put in the corner? After the 4th, the Chief said there will be a "Zero Tolerance" for fireworks in the City Limits"
Here is your chance to sound off - CLICK HERE to "Pop-Off!"
*"Some Guy came by the Chief's house at 7 in the morning while he was sound asleep wanting to complain about a family member!" The Chief listened intently, sympathized and then aptly dispatched the "On Duty" officer to do what needed to be done. GOSH!
*In the 500th Block East 4th Officers received a report of a "Verbal Domestic"...which is Official PD Lingo for, Some family was a hollerin' and a yellin' at one another and one of 'em got fed up and called the Poll-ese! Our patient officers sent the opposing parties back into their respective corners with the appropriate warnings about a "fair fight" and he got back to his "Fireworks in the City" calls....
*Police were called to the 1000th Block of South Lawn for a "Reckless Driver."
*Officers were called on "Multiple Complaints of Fireworks Discharged in the City Limits."
*Police were called to the 100th Block of 1st Street for a "LOUD MUSIC COMPLAINT." The subjects replied, "Huh?"
Saturday, June 30th
*Officers made a concerted effort to "Look Good" in the Parade and to maintain order and civility. --Which they did...
*Police responded again to several reports all over the city for "Illegally Discharging Fireworks" in the City Limits.
*Officers took note of, and watched for - a reported "Lost Dog" in the community. Imagine that dog's dismay at being accosted by the authorities and being told they were reported as a "Runaway!"

*On the 500th Block of Main Street Police issued a citation to some Einsteins who were "Discharging Fireworks AT EACH OTHER" from their vehicles.

*Then in the 500th Block of West 6th Street Police were called to a report of "Suspicious Activity" as somebody complained of someone "Screaming Outside Their Window!" Suspicious indeed, but nothing else was reported...so apparently said "screamer" was muted or gone.

*Police did a follow up on a "Protection Order."
*HCPD received a "Complaint" of Drug Activity. The subject was extremely agitated by drugs being made available to family members to the point that they wanted to become actively involved in the fight against drugs in Hale Center. The Chief voiced, as he has in the past, a shared frustration with the illegal drug activity in the city and again expressed the HCPD is actively investigating and "watching" for opportunities to make efforts to end the activity. As he said, "The Offenders operate outside the rules...while we have to operate within the rules"...but actively operate we will!"

*In the 200th Block of Avenue B Officers responded to a "Welfare Concern"...everything checked out OK.
*In the 500th Block 3rd Street Officers looked into a "Suspicious Vehicle" but found the vehicle to be minding its own business..
*In the 600th Block Main Street Police responded to a report of a "Dog Being Struck by a Car." The condition of the dog was not reported, but Officers DID have to make a "removal" of the animal...dead or alive, it doesn't sound good. Once again, PLEASE keep your animals on your property.
*In the 900th Block Main Street police responded to a "Business Alarm." Nothing out of the ordinary was observed.
*In the 500th Block East 4th Our Men in Blue responded to a report of "Fireworks discharged in the City."

*In the 500th Block of Main Street HCPD investigated a "Harassment" allegation.
*In the 100th Block of East Cleveland Police offered a "Motorist Assist"...what a swell bunch of fellas!
*Police responded to a report of "Fireworks being Discharged" and found the involved parties were outside the city limits.
Tuesday, June 26th
*There was nothing of significance to report today except for the following statement from our "Fearless Leader of the Troops," (Both of them) Chief Dennis Burton:
The biggest issue being dealt with at present is the setting-off of fireworks in the city limits. "We're not trying to be party-poopers" but there has already been a lot of folks around town popping off fireworks at all hours of the day and especially at night...within the city limits.
"I think we're gonna go to the source; go to the fireworks stands and let them know, 'Hey, here's what the ordinance is...and ah, just so you can pass it on to your clients and let them know that they cannot pop in the city limits.'"
Incidentally, if the department is forced to start citing individuals for popping fireworks in the city limits, the fines run from $200.00 to $300.00 per offense!
"Also, ah... due to the recent rains that we've had, the great moisture - weeds and grass are growing and part of our job also includes code enforcement. So, we've been out giving warnings for people with high grass and weeds. We're trying to keep the city beautiful."
*They're really good guys, just trying to do their sworn duty, uphold the law and maintain proper & pleasant lawn astethetics. We would like to ask that you show them your full support...unless, of course - they come after me and my weeds.
Monday, June 25th
*Police were called North of the city on I-27 about a "Reckless Driver." When officers arrived, they found a "wobbly, 18-wheeler." Upon stopping the big rig, they were informed the driver had dropped a lit cigarette in his lap and was trying to navigate a safe stop to insure the final drag before extinguishing his/her butt. The driver was warned, flogged and humiliated and sent on his way.
*Officers investigated a "Suspicious Vehicle" around the railroad tracks and 4th Street. The vehicle will be looked for again today and if it is still there...it will likely be tagged.
*In the 1300th Block of Avenue B there was a report of an incident that occurred outside of the city. "Domestic Do-do" is how the situation was described in police lingo... as a couple were having issues and one of them who lives out of town allegedly became physical with the other, then left town. The incident was turned over to the Sheriff's "Domestic Do-do Squad." Believe me, you don't want none of that bunch!
*As it is almost time for "Ratings Sweeps" we were particularly happy to see this next, rather steamy, little entry into the report... Officers came upon a foggy-windowed vehicle along 1424 on the North end of the city, with a man and woman "getting busy" if you will, right there in broad daylight! They naturally claimed to be "Just Talking" which usually implies either they are otherwise committed or under aged. We'll leave you guessing on that part. As it went down - One minute they were "just talking"...then the next minute they were literally surrounded by several city & county vehicles. "Officer, If this van's a rockin'....then PLEASE don't come knockin'!
*Officers made a rather awkward "Stop/Motorist Assist," again on 1424 on the north end of town where the suspect was stopped (a mom with several kids) for incomplete vehicle registration as the vehicle has recently been purchased. After the warning was issued, the lemon-like mode of non-transportation wouldn't start! Our fine Policeman then proceeded to try to boost the car into functionality...to no avail after which he loaded mother and all the loving offspring into the squad car for an exciting ride home. Our Police force should have White Hats!
*Later officers were called back to the "Domestic Do-do" location where apparently some of said DDD had hit the fan resulting in a "Criminal Trespass Restraint" being issued - a binding of sorts I guess you could say.
*Police were made aware of "Door-to-Door" salespersons that seemed suspicious. Again, remember anyone coming to your door with the intent of selling you something is supposed to be permitted by the City offices. These guys were. You have every right and privilege of asking them to see the permit and if they are professional they should gladly provide it along with a business card. They also should politely go away if you tell them you are not interested! Some of these people have good and worthwhile services and products and we do not want to make it look like ALL Door-to-Door salespersons are suspicious. Each case should be dealt with accordingly. We simply have a door matt that says "Go Away!" But it's OK, we also have a little shingle on the side of the door frame that says, "Bless You!"
*Officers were alerted around 10:30 last night about "Possible Gunshots Fired" in the city. Turns out it was just some folks that needed warning about popping off fireworks in the city limits.
*And finally, keep an eye on the Insider as we are working diligently on a package that will bring you audio (Internet Radio) and Video of not only the Police Report, but other headlines throughout the day as well as 24/7 music and the Sally & Terry Wright Morning Show! LOTS More to Come!!

*Police responded to a call in the 500th Block of East Cleveland about a "Possible Drunken Individual in a Wheel Chair." The individual seems to have evaded arrest, it is believed that the suspect must have had a fresh charge on their HoverRound and Aptly "Cheesed It" from the local fuzz.

*Officers took a "Theft Report" in the 200th Block of East Stevenson. A victim stated the loss of a toolbox and tools.
*Police filed a "Disorderly Conduct by Gesture" complaint in the 200th Block of West Stevenson. This charge in layman's terms would be more recognizably known as "Giving Somebody the Bird!" You'd do well to keep that finger in line with the others as the charge is a Class C Misdemeanor punishable with a fine of up to $500 which would be better spent on 25 manicures!!!.
*Officers looked into (literally) an "Open Door" in the 200th Block of West Cleveland. Everything was 10-4 good buddy and the building was then secured.
*The Chief, his own self ordered an officer to inform a well-meaning, yet slightly misguided motorcyclist to "Remove Their Motorcycle" from the sidewalk at the City Park. "Um...that's what the city streets and parking areas are for..."
*Officers were called several times to the 400th Block of East 4th Street on a "Possible Theft." Later at the same address the "Missing loot and/or booty" was discovered. Humbly the complainant withdrew their accusation/charges.

*Local Officers performed a "Motorist Assist" for a Southbound sojourner on the Interstate.

*Reports for Monday & Tuesday seem to be filled away under a do-nut box or beneath a stack of Tru-Detective Magazines as they were not available at the time of this publication.
Monday, June 18th
*See the excuse above....
Sunday, June 17th
*Police handled a complaint about a "Truck Blocking a Driveway" in the 200th Block of Avenue K.
*Officers were called to a local business about an "Extortion Attempt by Email." A report was made and handed off to the District Attorney, then forwarded to the FBI in Lubbock where it was neatly wrapped in red tape and presented back to the victim. The incident at the time of this publication seems to be benign.
*Police were called about a "Loose Propane Tank" rolling around on the Interstate. The tank was retrieved, the chief stated, "This could have been a real blast!" FUNNY MAN!
Saturday, June 16th
*Police had no incidents to report this Saturday. One of the force's Reserve Officers patrolled for what he described as over a half tank of gas' worth of driving and city order was maintained.
Friday, June 15th
*Police reported making an "Agency Assist" at an undisclosed location.
*Officers were called to 4th Street and Avenue H on a complaint about a "Loose, Aggressive Dog." Something about that description always triggers the Chief's funny bone!
*Police were called to the 500th Block of West 10th Street where someone complained about "One Dog Biting Another Dog..." proof, further that we live in a "Dog Eat Dog" world! One dog was hauled away to the Canine Poky.
*The Chief voiced a growing concern about unattended dogs running loose. He said it seems to be a seasonal problem, that more people seem to let their dogs roam free in the summer months, but that the problem is growing to the degree that they may be forced to begin citing the owners...and worse yet, hauling the dogs to the pound where they are automatically on "Death Row" unless they are claimed in a set time. PLEASE, keep your dogs on YOUR own property.
*Police looked into (literally) an "Open or Unsecured Door" at a business in the 1000th Block of North Main Street. The door was secured and everything seemed to be in order.
*Police worked the Cleveland Underpass again due to "Faulty Pump Float Switching" which led to yet another flooded underpass, halting traffic on I-27 through the metropolis. The switch was eventually thrown manually, the water subsided and traffic was again sent on their merry, yet somewhat waterlogged way.
*Lt. Richardson turned in a report also on Friday simply filled out; "Rain, Rain, Rain!" The report was water stained and the ink had ran making it difficult to read...but we get it!.
Thursday, June 14th
*Police were called about an "Aggressive, Loose Dog" meandering about in the 1000th Block of South Lawn. No word whether the canine-on-the-lamb was retrieved. or as the anonymous reader pointed..."on-the-lam!" ...and Thank You!
*Officers responded about the time of the power outage to a "Criminal Mischief" call at the Carr Middle School Track (500th Block of West 13th.) There was no further information on this call as the actors were not seen upon arrival, and about then "All Heck Broke Loose" with flooding and power outages. Humm, they got away with something!
*Police were called about a "Reckless Driver" on the 400th Block of West 14th. Likely kids splashing their car through the water.
*HCPD was advised of a "Sparking Power Line" at 13th and Avenue I. Once officers arrived the sparking had subsided...but then so had cooking, TV viewing and Internet searching all over town!
*The flash flooding was not as severe as what it usually takes to flood the underpass, but in the loss of power, the pumps were not functional, so water began to rise and a car on the interstate hydro-planed, causing them to crash into another vehicle. Officers blocked I-27 traffic for about 30 minutes while the situation was resolved. No injuries were reported.
*Officers responded to a "Residential Alarm" in the 500th Block of Main Street. It seemed to have been a "False Alarm" as nothing was out of the ordinary
*We have been advised that our Illustrious Leader, Commander & Chief of the HCPD; Sir-Chief Dennis Burton the first will be testifying in a court case in Pampa, Texas next week, causing a postponement of the Monday and possibly the Tuesday editions of the HCPD Report. Please check back often and well-wishes and speedy return to our beloved "Marshall Dillon." or as the anonymous reader AGAIN pointed...it's "Commander-IN-Chief" ...Ahh, Thank You again, and trust me this is a leak you don't want to spend too much time trying to plug!
Wednesday, June 13th
*Officers were called on a more unusual disturbance of "Criminal Mischief" were some rather creative scoff-laws proceeded to desicrate some poor unsuspecting soul's vehicle...get this with bread, bologna and ketchup, etc. There was no actual damage to the vehicle. Tuesday, June 12th
*Police investigated a call of, "Criminal Mischief" in the 500th Block of West 14th Street. It seems some sorry, no-account, cowardly individual "keyed" someone else's car. Even if you're looking for revenge...that's no way to get it - you're anonymous ! What did the car ever do to you? Humm,
*Officers were called about an "Abandoned Bicycle!" We inquired if the tires were still aired up (we're committed to asking the hard-hitting questions...) and get this - they were! A fully functioning bicycle that had been abandoned for several days in some unsuspecting person's yard. Officers took possesion of the bike and now the Chief is learning how to do wheelies. Life is like a box of chocolates...
*Officers were called on a "Trespassing Issue" in the 300th Block of West 3rd Street. "Move along folks...nothing to see here."
*Things got exciting when Local Law Enforcement responded to the "Panic Alarm" at Lowe's Pay-N-Save. It was deemed a "false alarm"...apparently two customers asked Carolee about eggplant on the same day and she lost all control. The Lesson to be learned here is; If you're sitting around your dimly lite home, contemplating a robbery at the local grocery store... THEY ARE EQUIPPED WITH FULL ALARM & SURVELANCE!! So, There!
*Officers were called about a "Harrassment Allegation" in the 500th Block of East 4th Street and also the 300th Block of East 6th Street. It would seem the two addresses are at least three or four blocks apart - surprised there weren't a lot of "Disturbing the Peace" calls in between! Maybe they harrassed each other over the phone - or just chuncked rocks at each other, though that would require a powerful sling-shot. ...And yet again - I digress,
Monday, June 11th
*Officers were called about "Kids playing on their own roof" in the 500th Block of West 10th Street. The department advised that only "Rubber Bullets" are used to resolve these types of matters, and NO animals are harmed in the process.
*Early this morning police investigated a call of "Suspicious Juveniles" messing around at Caudle Lake. By the time police arrived, the cleaver goats had made their way back inside the fence where they proceeded to blea, gleefully at officers and taunt them while denying they had ever gone outside the fence. Film at eleven.
*Police performed a "Motorist Assist" in the 200th Block of West Cleveland - Thank you very much.

*Guns were drawn and a "Skunk was shot and killed" on the 400th Block of East 4th Street.

Friday, June 8th
*Police handled a "Situation" around 11:15a.m. in the 500th Block of West Cleveland where a 75 year old white male suffering dementia had been holding his wife at bay with a gun all night. The man's nurse arrived and reported the incident drawing the attention of local police, Constable, and a DPS trooper. Shortly after their arrival the subject turned the gun on officers threatening to shoot them. The officers, at just the right time, took advantage when the man temporarily dropped his guard and they took the weapon and subdued him. He was restrained and put in an ambulance and taken to a proper facility in Lubbock. The Chief commended the officers on their handling of the situation. HCPD will forward a copy of the report to the Hale County District Attorney's Office.

We asked what the vehicle was pulled over for and discovered there was an underaged passenger in the bed of the truck (again, this is going down the Interstate) and the underaged passenger was...drinking a beer. Other than that, they were all just good guys enjoying the sunny day. The minor was charged with "MIP" (Minor in Possession) and the "wanted" driver was driven to the pokey!
Monday, June 4th
Monday morning initial dialog: Insider: "Good Morning!" Chief: "Good Morning!" Insider: "Boy! Ya'll got busy with the rain didn't ya?" Chief: "We DID! It, uh... made business pick up. We got to block off the interstate yesterday because of it..." Insider: "That went pretty quick though didn't it?" Chief: "Yes, the pumps worked real good after they got started." Insider: "It seemed like it, what was it - about 20 minutes to get the underpass cleared?" Chief: "Yeah, yeah probably something like that. But, uh...after the pumps got going it worked real good." The driver was sent back to the persons home and told to work things out...probably need to give 'em a rake and tell 'em, "Straighten this mess out and learn how to drive!" (There's a good reason why I'm not a COP...")
*The Chief, Constable, Sheriff's Department and the DPS all worked the Interstate as the Thunderstorm dropped an inch of rain in less than 45 minutes. In the Chief's words, "It rained so hard we were rescuing ducks!" Quack! Quack! Quack! Quack!
Sunday, June 3rd
*HCPD responded to a "HOLD UP" alarm being sounded at the local Convenience Store. Upon arrival officers found that a couple of the "On-Duty" Clerk's children had found the Big Red Button as it were and couldn't resist the overwhelming curiosity to find out, "What's This Do?" Been there, done that! No harm done, the children were left to the discretion of their parents.
*Officers answered a call and sought out a "Reckless Driver" on Interstate 27.
Saturday, June 2nd
*Local Police performed a "Motorist Assist" for a southbound driver on I-27.
*Officers responded to a "Reckless Driver" report on the 200th Block of West 6th Street. Details were not given, coulda been a drunk, a speeding teenager showing off, a "little-old person not paying attention" or a person on a cell phone...if any of those describe YOU, you might wanna sharpen up your driving habits!
*Police were called on an "Unwanted Person" report in the 400th Block of West 14th. Alcohol was involved...must not have been enough to go around!
*Officers acted in the 500th Block of East 3rd Street where a child was found wandering unattended in the street. The child was reunited with his/her parents.
Friday, June 1st
*Officers were called to North FM 1424 for a "Suspicious Person" report. Everything checked out so apparently the person in question had some business there...and were minding it!! (Did that sound right?)
*Police offered "Agency Assist" to EMS in the 300th Block of West 2nd Street.
*In the 600th Block of East Cleveland, Officers were called to a "Verbal Domestic" (Folks a yellin' and a hollerin' at one another). Report said, "He left!" Police were called again a short time later and the report says, "SHE Left!" It's Like I always say, "If Sally ever leaves me...I'm a goin' with her!"
*In the 200th Block of East 14th, Officers arrested an individual that was pointed out by court clerk records for 4 Outstanding Warrants. The individual was taken without incident and the city coffer got a little bit fuller!
*Officers were called to the 400th Block of West 4th, about an "Unattended Child" but reports indicate that everything checked out.
*Police were called to the 400th Block of West 9th Street on a "Criminal Mischief" call. Nothing was reported as vandalized and no further information was provided.
*THEN for a cherry on top of the Sundae...Officers were called to the Lowe's parking lot about a person who had had a few too many and was wielding a knife! When officers arrived the suspect had mossied on along and was not reported again. The inebriated Knife Wielder was reported to have been in an older model Ford Bronco, white in color.
Wednesday, May 30th
*We spoke with Chief Dennis Burton of the HCPD about the current break in the heat wave and inquired if we could expect a drop in crime, as is predicted in other Urban Metros such as Chicago. The Chief replied, "We should NOT expect a drop in crime locally due to the cooler weather..." He went on to explain that our local criminal element subscribes to more of a Postman's Creedo of "Rain, Snow, Sleet or Hail" our participation of petty larceny will prevail! With that...let's delve into another Local Crime Report!
*Officers answered a disturbance on the 300th Block of Main Street that resulted in an arrest. At the Local Convenience Store, a female subject came to the final realization that her male companion was NOT the love of her life and she proceeded to "break it off" as it were by dumping his worldly possessions into the parking lot in the full view of God and everyone else! In a tasty morsel of irony, neither the heartbreaker nor the heartbroken were the subjects of the arrest, but rather a female member of the heartbreaker's "Cheer Squad" who got a bit over excited and unruly prompting Officers to ask for her identification - which in-turn, led to the three (3) outstanding warrants for her arrest from Lubbock County! If there were to be a moral to this story, it might go something like this, "Person whom over-glee at Dumpee's humiliation get rewarded with three, warm, squares-a-day in the pokie!"
*Officers made a "Civil Stand-by" in the 300th Block of West 3rd Street. Since no further details were available, it is assumed the situation remained civil...
*Police looked into a "Welfare Concern" in the 400th Block of East 1st Street.
*Officers investigated a "Domestic Disturbance" in the 500th Block of West 6th Street where the two subjects were evaluated and asked to go back to their respective corners, keep it a "Clean Fight" and to watch the blows "Below the Belt" (No...I'm not going there...) One subject left voluntarily so the situation was resolved peacefully.
*Local Police looked into two separate incidents of "Criminal Mischief" in the 400th Block of West 6th Street and the vicinity of Stevenson and Avenue J where some suspected juveniles defaced some automobiles with a sort of "liquid chalk." The damage was fairly, easily cleaned up and caused no permanent damage, but it still constitutes Criminal Mischief nonetheless and the culprits need to be aware of the consequences if caught. Especially if it's MY vehicle (...and assuming I'm bigger than they are!)
Tuesday, May 29th
*Back to Monday the 28th, an individual came to the Police Station looking for information and help with a family member who appeared to be suicidal. The subject was referred tot he appropriate channels at a regional local hospital.
*Officers responded South of the city on a call of a hitch-hiker on the interstate in the city limits but the officer didn't find the subject and it was assumed the subject had already been picked up.
*On the 500th Block of West Stevenson, officers investigated a residential alarm but nothing was found suspicious, it was a falsie!
*At an undisclosed location a in the city officers worked a report of "Indecency with a Child by Contact." In cases like these we will offer no more details but the fact of an incident and we would request your prayers for all involved as well as for the officers working with the involved parties.
Monday, May 28th
*In the 1200th Block of Avenue H, Officers were called to mediate or abolish a "Verbal Disturbance." The significance of said disturbance was quashed, the involved parties subdued and order was maintained. Alcohol may have been a contributing factor.
*At 14th and Main Street a traffic stop around 2:30AM resulted in a DUI for a minor.
*Police answered a call from the 400th Block of West 14th Street where the resident had a "Complaint About Drugs"...and apparently not about their effectiveness as the complaining party did NOT answer the door when Officers arrived. Again, Alcohol was suspected to be a contributing factor to the call.
*Officers responded to the 500th Block of West 14th Street on complaint of a possible "M-I-P" Party (Minor In Possession). No arrests were made
*On the 800th Block of Hi-Line Road Officers responded to a call of a dog-fight where one dog was bitten by a neighboring dog. The bitten dog was critically injured. AGAIN, PLEASE keep your dogs restrained.
*In the 200th Block of Stevenson Street Officers responded with an "Agency Assist" as an approximately 1-year-old child was hit in the head by another child with a baseball bat. EMS responded to the situation. No information at the time of publication as to the condition of the child.
Sunday, May 27th
*Police spotted a Pick-up in the area of 10th Street and Main with minors riding in the back of the truck. Since there are NO SEATBELTS in the bed of pick-up beds - yes, it is illegal! The only time someone should be in the bed of a pick-up truck recreationally is with a mattress and wedding rings...and by all means the truck should NOT be moving!
Did he just say that?
*Officers moved in on a call on the 300th Block of 10th Street about a Honyok riding an unlicensed 4-wheeler on the streets. Fortunately this individual was sober (this time) and scolded and released.
*Police responded vigorously to the report of a chair, low, a slightly scuffed recliner in the road on Southbound I-27. The fugitive furnishing was aptly moved to the center median for road clearance and safety. Chief Burton has requisitioned City Offices for the purchase of a Solar-Powered Radar whereby he may occupy the recliner and with subsequent traffic stops, procure funds for the city coffer at the same time. (I doubt he really did that, but he indeed did say it!)
*Also on I-27 Officers responded to a report of a vehicle traveling without taillights.
*In the 500th Block of West 6th Street, HCPD investigated an assault. The complaining party determined NOT to make charges as the actual incident had occurred the day before and evidently cooler heads prevailed, as it were.
*At the local unnamed Convenience Store (...see, they haven't yet seen the value of advertising with us yet so we won't say their name - you know, the guys with the delicious burritos and huge cold drinks? Ya know, the only store in town open 24/7. Yup, we'll show them, we won't say who they are...)Anyway there was a report of a customer getting hit with an EGG! Thankfully NOT by a clerk either! Place your incident related joke here:________________. The same culprits were pursued through the evening and night as complaints about them popped up at various locations, involving eggs and water balloons. Undoubtedly they took "Mama's Eggs"...Once they start buying them - they'll learn to scramble them like the rest of us!
*Officers took a report at the station of a stolen gun. No further information on that report.
*Local Police assisted EMS in the 400th Block of Avenue H on a call about a person who was burned on the hands and arms by a pretty badly by a Drain-O splash.
*Officers assisted a stranded motorist on I-27 North of the city. Consequently DPS came and had them move their vehicle off the highway.
Saturday, May 26th
*Police were called to the 1000th Block of Ave E for your Standard, Regulation, "Small-Town, Variety, Fender-Bender." No one was hurt, information was properly gathered and the involved parties were sent wobbling on their way.
*Officers answered a call to the 200th Block of East 13th Street on a "Civil Matter." It was called a Civil Matter, but since Police were called, we feel it safe to report that it was likely a rather Indeed, an Uncivil Matter.
*Local Police performed a "Civil Stand-by" on I-27 North. That's all the report said and even the Chief was smh or actually shh on that one!
*Police moved in on the 500th Block of West 14th Street where there had been a complaint of LOUD MUSIC!
*Police were also called to the 500th Block of West 10th Street where there had also been a complaint of LOUD MUSIC!.....I SAID A COMPLAINT OF LOUD MUSIC!!!!!
*Around mid-day on this Saturday, the call came of some "YaHoo" that most believe was suspected of some rural burglaries - who had been apparently spotted and took flight. As we monitored the scanner, said Yahoo scurried out across the fields East and South of the greater Hale Center Metropolis as someone took chase who was later rammed by the "Sky-Blue, Hatchback, Sedan" which caused authorities to open up the proverbial can of "Whoop-$@#!" as the pursuit took on County Sheriffs, DPS and our own Local Men in Blue. Through the confusion of county roads, directions, the abundance of adrenaline and stirred dirt on country roads and turn-rows, the would-be scoundrel managed to give the authorities a "slip of the hip" as it were. If you have any information on the whereabouts or ownership of a "Sky-Blue, Hatchback, Sedan" that looks like its been through an Arkansas, teenage driving school, please report your information to HCPD at 839-4450 or you can email confidential tips to the Insider by Clicking Here
Friday, May 25th
*Local SWAT was called about "Loose Goats" around Avenue K in the city. Actually, SWAT was NOT Called... But the goats were not found - it is assumed they were either rounded up by their "Person" and taken home or possibly eluded arrest by being mistaken for Lawyers walking around (as sheep/goats in "Wolves" clothing!) You can do better? Please do!!
*Officers offered an "Agency Assist" to CPS in the 500th Block of West 6th Street where a Child was removed from the residence.
*Police assisted on a call of a "Grass Fire"...Not Marijuana in the 300th Block of West 4th Street.
*Officers were called to the 500th Block of West 14th Street on yet another call of LOUD MUSIC. I SAID LOUD MUSIC!!
*Local Police were called about a driver either going the wrong way, OR being on the wrong side of the Interstate - as he was Northbound in the Southbound lane. It all depends on how you look at it
*Officers were called to the High School for a "Motorist Assist."
*HCPD assisted DPS in the 500th Block of Main Street where DPS conducted search on a motorist - and/or their vehicle.
*In the 600th Block of Main Street Police checked out a "Suspicious Vehicle." We're not sure, but we think the vehicle in question had a pencil-thin mustache and was wearing a spangled, poncho. We're talking suspicious!
Thursday, May 24th
*HCPD answered a call and responded to the 300th Block of West 10th Street for an "Agency Assist" where a gentleman had fallen. The subject checked out and officers were quickly released to get back to bonafide crime-stopping.
*Also in the 300th Block of West 10th Street, officers lassoed some unlicensed, juveniles who were reportedly riding unlicensed, unregistered "Dirt Bikes" in the city limits. The kids were sent home with their scooters and told to get a license and go find somewhere besides city property to run up your folk's medical bills! (Yes, I'm getting old!)
*Local Police responded to a call about several vehicles traveling southbound on the interstate...WITHOUT TAIL LIGHTS! Officers looked and looked but couldn't see them - they must have been BEHIND the culprits!
*One interview has been made in the burglary of the City Service Barn and consequent theft of the Safe full of city property-keys. Nothing came of it, but the investigation is vigorously moving forward. If you have ANY information that could assist in this investigation, please get in touch with the Police or confidentially email the Insider. We won't tell anybody you told!
*And Finally, we would like to cordially invite everyone to join us for next Tuesday's Police Report, as it is certain to be "Chock Full" of juicy tidbit-tells about the mindless shenanigans of the beer-swilling, shame-to-their-best-friend, always-too-loud, revelers who will be turned in and detained for over-celebrating the Memorial Day Weekend. Remember - too much to drink only makes you more attractive....TO YOURSELF! It's a shame some of you are gonna do it anyway, but we're sure looking forward to writing/reading about you on Tuesday! Be Safe and Happy Memorial Day!
Wednesday, May 23rd
*UPDATE We reported that on Saturday, May 19th a 2005 Beige, Dodge Caravan was reported stolen from the 500th Block of West 6th Street. Chief Burton informed us today that the vehicle was spotted and pursued yesterday (05/23/12) in Castro County. After a brief chase the van crashed and the driver took off on foot. Following a short foot-chase, the suspect was apprehended and arrested. Taken into custody and charged with "Theft of a Motor Vehicle" was Julio Sylva of Dimmit. The van was not insured.
*Hale Center Police "Talked To" some kids at the City Park who, first took down the "Keep Off the Grass" signs, and then - you guessed it got on the grass. Golly, we were watching the outcome of that case...a different response from the police would have had Stop Signs all over town coming down!
*Officers were called to the Hale Center Coop Supply Store where employees observed a subject in the act of "Shoplifting." The subject was apprehended, asked not to return to the store and released. We understand they were trying to make off with some tarp tie-downs. Just look for the person with the flapping tarp and you'll likely see the culprit!
*Local Police assisted the DPS with an accident on the Interstate south of the city. A single vehicle had gone off the road and hit an embankment. From the scanner information we understand the driver was NOT wearing his/her seat belts. Come on folks, buckle up and set a good example for the up and coming drivers...and possibly save yourself serious injury. Gosh! Nimrods, smdgh!
*Officers were called to the 300th Block of East 13th Street about some kids "running around the church at night." They were asked to leave, though the real threat isn't there unless They all blow horns on the seventh time around! Huh, you didn't get that? Didn't you ever go to Sunday School?
*Back to Tuesday for a moment...Police were called to the Jr. High Practice Field where some kids were jumping off some structures onto pads. That is just boys being boys, but it still doesn't make it safe or allowed. They were asked to keep their feet on the ground....SOMEWHERE ELSE!
*Officers were called to the 100th Block of West 4th Street about "Telephone Harassment." Boy! I didn't know you could turn that one in. Apparently if someone calls you whom you ask not to call anymore...you can turn them in and even file charges of harassment! Now, where's my pencil and paper?
*In the 500th Block of West 6th Street, a subject was asked to leave the premises and they wouldn't. Don't get mad, just call your local neighborhood Police force...works almost every time! By the time the Police arrived, the intruding party realized the home-owner was serious about calling the cops and split! Sensitivity to others, that's what we need more of. If you sense someone doesn't want your company - LEAVE! It's why I never go anywhere! (Poor Sally)
*Officers were called to the 300th Block of East Stevenson Street to get an inoperable car moved.
Tuesday, May 22nd
*First things first, I need to make a clarification on a post I made on my personal Facebook page yesterday. We made a promo for the Insider and one of my "Facebook Acquaintances" made a comment about being acquitted of a crime for which I congratulated him/her. In their comment they went on to accuse one of our policemen, (a friend of mine) of lying. Firstly, I was out of line for making congratulations to someone in a post where a friend of mine was called a liar, secondly I did not know that the charges he/she was acquitted of, were "assault" against my friend (a Police Officer). I have since deleted the post and I would like to acknowledge that I was wrong and disloyal to a friend that I speak with on a daily basis - for so abruptly acting in my ignorance. I hope my apology will be accepted. --Terry Wright, Co-Editor
*Hale Center Police were called to the 200th Block of East 9th Street to help with a uncontrollable child. Officers assisted the situation and CPS ultimately took over.
*Police are currently working a "Burglary" that originated at the City Service Center on 10th Street and Avenue E. The burglar or burglars made off with a safe that contains the keys to "practically every piece of equipment and property the city has" as well as a pair of bolt cutters. If you have any information on this burglary, PLEASE contact the Hale Center Police Department at 839-4450 or you can email confidential tips to the Insider by Clicking Here
Monday, May 21st
*Today we begin with a "Retro" call...from Saturday the 19th. A report found on the floor, in the squad car or still in "the library" - we don't ask! A person came to the Police Department to file "Assault Charges" against an individual from the 500th Block of West 10th Street.
*We are grateful for the discovery of the aforementioned "Assault Charge" as the only other documented activity from yesterday (Monday) was officers assisting county agents and EMS as they looked for an overturned fertilizer truck South & West of Cotton Center. Details on this were sketchy, as we monitored the event on our Police Scanner (Compliments of Brown Pharmacy.) It seems emergency personnel had extreme difficulty locating the overturned vehicle and when they did...as we understood it, medical help was refused by the subject! Sounds an awful lot like my "fertilizer spreading" ...If ya know what I mean, and I think you do.
*Don't despair, we'll call the chief up again in the morning and see if today has proven any more interesting. Meanwhile, let's all just relish the "Mayberry-like" peace and quiet...as long as it should last!
Sunday, May 20th
*On the 1200th Block of Main Street was a complaint of a "Reckless Driver." The driver was not found....but they're looking!!!
*On the 200th Block of Avenue B there was a call about a "Kid in the Street." When we inquired whether it was a minor or what...Our Commanding Police Chief responded, "Yeah, either that or a goat!" It's hard to find adult conversationalists anymore.
*In the 600th Block of West Main Street the Chief described a report about a "Suspicious Vehicle." He said beside the info was a notation that it was 10-4. The Chief said he is not sure if that means, "10-4 it checked out", or "10-4 that it was indeed a Suspicious Vehicle." Communication...THAT's what it's all about!
Saturday, May 19th
*Officers responded 300th Block of West 13th Street for a "Possible Party." Though some very suspicious streamers were seen in the yard and a pointed hat on the porch, there was no tell-tale evidence of an ongoing "Party In-Progress." The residents were told to behave and stop being so jovial! (That last part was admittedly a fabrication of the editor's.)
*Now back to the 500th Block of West 6th Street, Police were called on the "Theft of a Motor Vehicle." The report was taken and Officers are on the watch for a 2005 Beige, Dodge Caravan Please contact HCPD if you have any information on this vehicle at: 839-4450.
*Again on the 500th Block of West 6th Street (different house number) officers were called in for "LOUD MUSIC..." the complaint was deemed, Unfounded. Huh?
*Officers were called to the area of Avenue K and 6th Street about.... "Kids!" (Hot Rodding Again.) If you're reading this and you really enjoy the smell of burning rubber from your spinning tires...be smart and find yourself a place outside of town to "burn out" before you wind up having to get your car out of the pokey!
Friday, May 18th
*Officers responded to 2 separate calls about a "Possible Fire" on the 400th Block of Avenue C where some old fertilizer tanks used to be. They were taken care of and the Department is looking into possible "Suspicious Behavior" surrounding the fires.
*Officers aided EMS in the 200th Block of West 3rd Street in a simple "Agency Assist."
*Police responded to a call of a possible "Intoxicated Driver" on I-27 Northbound. No stop was made.
*Officers "Assisted DPS" on I-27 Northbound with a Search.
*Later HCPD stopped a "Reckless Driver" on the Interstate. DPS was called in to perform a "Field Sobriety Test" which resulted in the arrest of a woman - an apparently Drunken Woman!
Thursday, May 17th
*Officers responded to a call at Avenue K and East 13th street to conduct a "Motorist Assist."
*Police were dispatched to the 600th Block of West 5th Street about a "Loose Horse." You can bet that complaint wasn't called in by a "Stud!"
*At 11th Street and Avenue H, Police responded to a complaint about "Motorists Spinning their Tires." The Chief expressed a marked frustration with similar and ongoing activity of this nature along Avenue K and he said actions are being taken to put an end to it. Chief Burton said the old "Exhibition of Acceleration" Charge is no longer on the books, so when individuals are caught "Hot Rodding" charges of reckless driving will be filed and the vehicle will be impounded - in the event of multiple vehicles involved, more serious charges of "Drag Racing" will be filed and BOTH vehicles will be impounded.
*Officers responded to a call about "LOUD Music...someplace on West 12th Street but the officer was unable to locate it!" Somebody got away with disturbing the peace...Don't Push It! :-)
*Police were called to the 500th Block of West 6th Street on a "Kind of a Theft." A key was taken by a household member to someone's medicine box! "I'll show you, I'll take the key to your medicine till you see things MY way!" Not a very nice or legal way to resolve disagreements. Police talked the situation back into place as best they could....
*Later police were called to the same address for a "CPS Agency Assist." Those three letters take the humor out of the situation.
*Police investigated a "Theft of Service" call in the 1300th Block of Avenue D where somebody had the "Stones" to illegally tap into the public water supply and proceed to steal WATER! Charges will be filed.
Wednesday, May 16th
*HCPD are investigating the "Burglary of a Habitation" that occurred in the 600th Block of West 4th Street. Among the items taken were video games, musical instruments and various other items choice for quick-sell or self consumption. Again, "Burglary" is defined as "Entry into a building illegally with intent to commit a crime, especially theft." Significant damage was not described in the forced entry, which is good. If you have any information as to who the "ignoramus" may be, please contact the HCPD at 806-839-4450 or you can send anonymous tips to the Insider by CLICKING HERE. Let's quickly find who did this and put a stop to it!
*The chief also said there was possibly "other activity" that occurred, but the reports weren't complete as of this interview. Remember, for a limited time...you can see the Police Station and City Hall on our "LIVE" Streaming Video Cam by Clicking HERE!. It's OK...we know you like to watch! :-)
Tuesday, May 15th
*Hale Center Police Officers made an "Assist" to the Sheriff's Department on a fatal farm accident.
*Chief Burton made a traffic stop at 10th & Avenue E that resulted in the felony arrest of a Hale Center man. The subject was stopped because his back, right door swung open as he gently rounded a corner. "Whoever named it 'DOPE' knew what they were doing!" The driver had no drivers license on him and the Chief acknowledges that he has a "Zero-Tolerance Policy" for drivers who do not have their license with them. "You got no license...you get a ticket! - Take it up with the Judge!" Upon an identification check, a 22 year old male currently of Hale Center was arrested on an outstanding warrant from Lubbock County for possession of marijuana. There was a "Pre-Set bond" of $10,000.00.
*On the 200th Block of Avenue H officers responded to a call of a "Refrigerator Being Stolen from a Citizen's Back Yard!" Excuse me maam, Is your refrigerator running? Upon investigation it seems a relative had made off with the evasive appliance. No charges were filed but we'll keep this case open until further notice.
*Later in the day Police were called about a student fleeing from Akin Elementary. Officers procured said student and reattached the meandering pupil to his/her rightful place in academia.
*Officers had a "Terroristic Threat" taken in the 100th Block of West 4th Street. No action was taken and no one was physically harmed.
*Police responded to a call of a "Loose Dog" in the 100th Block of East 4th Street. Officers notified the owner of the promiscuous pooch and he/she was aptly re-confined to the appropriate canine quarters.
*Again Police responded to "Terroristic Threat" activity on the 100th Block of West 4th Street.
Monday, May 14th
*Officers responded to a "Reckless Driver" complaint on the Interstate.
*Police were called on a request to constrain or subdue someone who was in someone else's care. The request was respectfully declined as there was not a criminal, or potentially violent threat.
Sunday, May 13th
*Officers responded to the 400th block of West 14th street where it seems two brothers got into a fight and one called the police, complaining; "I just wanted to call it in before he did!!" (Yes, this stuff is for real!)
*Police provided a "Motorist Assist" at the 1400th Block of Avenue K. "Let's keep things moving along...nothing to see here folks!"
*Officers responded to a "Verbal Altercation" at the 200th Block of East 13th Street, where they managed to restore verbal order.
*Police found a "Missing Dog" in the 200th Block of Avenue K. The Misplaced Mongrel was returned to his/her home. When a "missing dog" winds up in the doghouse...that's a good thing!
*Officers were called to the 100th Block of Avenue K about a "Horse In-Town." We inquired about the illegality of a horse being in town and we were told that if someone chooses to ride their horse in town, they'll not be hassled, but that having a horse loose, or in an inappropriate place, or leaving "calling cards" where they shouldn't is not conducive to maintaining civility in an advanced culture such as ours. (We took liberties with the Chief's actual words to try to more subtly convey the desired point of the matter.)
Saturday, May 12th
*On Saturday Morning officers received a call to check on a "Loose Dog" 17 miles south of the city. The complaint was of a dog being loose one mile north of Abernathy. Officers opted NOT to investigate the doggoned matter.
*Later in the day officers were called on a "Motorist Assist." It seems the motorist was "lost..." - In Hale Center....AND SOBER! The Motorist was pointed "that-a-way" and left to their own bliss.
*In the 200th Block of East 9th street police were called about an "Unwanted Person" at the address. There was also mention in the report of an EMS call at the same address. There were no further details in the report, leaving much to speculation. The Chief just assumed that an unwanted visitor maybe made the resident SICK! The Chief will be doing two Friday & Saturday shows nightly at the Owl Cafe starting in July. "Remember to tip your servers!"
*Police were called to the 1300th Block of Avenue B on a "Theft" complaint, but while investigating, the culprit "brought the purse back!" The Victim maintains the right to file charges at will. "I told you I knew you took my purse and that I was gonna call the cops!"
Friday, May 11th
*On the 500th Block of West Cleveland officers conducted a "Welfare Check." I wonder if it requires two forms of ID to cash a "Welfare Check?"
Thursday, May 10th
*Officers provided a "Motorist Assist" on the 100th Block of East Cleveland.
*Police investigated a "Possible Prowler" on the 500th Block of West Cleveland. No word on whether there WAS a person possibly prowling or whether there was Possibly a person prowling. You see the difference, don't you?
(05/10/12)--The Chief was away yesterday (thus the missed report - made up today) at a "Drug Interdiction" class. These courses basically teach law enforcement how to see "tell-tale" signs of drug possession or usage in interactions with the public! The class was in Perryton, and "Chief Gung-Ho" made stops along the way home looking for warrant fugitives who had moved to various locations along his trek! He may not be all that tall... but he does possess the "Long Arm" of the law! Strangely - on him, though he's right-handed, the long arm is his left! Go figure!
Wednesday, May 9th
*Officers provided an "Agency Assist" to EMS on the 400th Block of West Stevenson. An elderly woman sustained injury and was attended to. No other details were available.
*On the 200th Block of West Stevenson Police responded to a "Burglary of a Vehicle" call...and you gotta Get This! When officers arrived they discovered that some assailant had broken into the vehicle and taken... the entire DASHBOARD! Imagine getting into your car to go to work and seeing nothing but a naked steering wheel! We're talking A/C vents, heater, radio, speedometer; EVEN the danged glove compartment was gone! This is where I would usually try to think of something funny to embellish on the story, but I really don't think that will be necessary here!
*On the 400th Block of West 4th street Officers responded to an "Assault." Police took a report. Details of charges, if any are filed will be reported at another time.
*On the 600th Block of East 6th Police issued a "Criminal Trespass" warning.
*On the 400th Block of Avenue G police provided a "Civil Stand-By." Again the Civil Stand-by is just a presence of law enforcement to insure public civility.
*On the 400th Block of Avenue H police investigated a "Possible Prowler." Chief Burton said; at this time of the year - as weather becomes more pleasant, "Prowler Calls" increase considerably. More and more people and animals roam the streets and alleys enjoying the mild temperatures. As he added, it doesn't mean there aren't prowlers out there... we just notice more activity.
Tuesday, May 8th
*On to the 200th Block of East 13th Street, Officers responded to a "Possible House Fire." Turns out the subject was grilling. Police "sniffed around" a bit, but weren't offered a hot dog and they decided the subject AND situation were docile. (Look it up! Click here for definition of docile)
*On to the 1300th Block of Main Street, Police responded to a "Civil Issue" regarding a subject contracting to perform car repairs and leaving the customer "afoot" so to speak. F.Y.I. best to use a real mechanic when paying someone to work on your automobile, like guys or girls who have tools and a shop!
*Later in the day Officers responded to a Juvenile call. Charges have not yet been filed so it's not too late to turn things around. All kidding aside, if you know who the subject is (or even if you don't...) may we please ask for your prayers for him/her. Decisions made in youth can often greatly affect the rest of your life!
Monday, May 7th
*Officers responded to a call about a "Vehicle Parked in a Shelter Where it Didn't Belong" on the 600th Block of Avenue H. Seems the "Care-taker" of the vehicle wanted to protect it from hail storms so he/she found an unattended garage of a supposed vacant dwelling and they "Just Pulled Right In!" Police located the "Care-taker of the Vehicle" and had it removed. File this one under, "Squatter's Rights" don't mean squat no more!
*Later in the day Reserve Officers observed a "Suspected (possible) Fight" about a mile East of town on FM 1914. Upon questioning and a little "Stink-Eye" the potential brouhaha was aptly thwarted and said "rabble-rousers" were sent on their respective ways. "Nothing to see here folks, let's move along!"
*Police responded to a call of "Possible Shots-Fired" on County Road 185. Remember, as good Texans, there ain't nothin' wrong with going outside the city limits and shootin' a few rounds...but it's best to let property owners know you're there and get their permission first. Either way, don't be surprised to have a visit from local law enforcement. All that to say, since the shots are heard from afar, it's best to leave your liquor and your felonious friends at the house when goin ' shootin'.
*And back to the 500th Block of East 2nd Street Officers responded to a call of "A Man on the Roof." No one was found on the roof....BUT, in the complainant's defense there WAS a cat on the roof!

*And back to the 500th Block of East 2nd Street Officers responded to a call of "Men on the Roof." No men were found. If indeed "It's Raining Men, Hallelujah!"...these men would be liable to wind up "in the gutter!"
Saturday, May 5th
*On Saturday, "The Sheriff" (actually one of our officers) rode out to round up "some loose horses" on the 700th Block of Cleveland Street (that's down thar, just east of "the pass." The hosses were lassoed and corralled back onto their homestead range.
*Local officers were called upon to assist DPS with a Northbound stop on the interstate. Generally if there is a felony stop, a search or suspected violent or intoxicated driver, the nearest law enforcement are called to assist as a "back-up."
*Police were called to the 1000th Block of North main on a "Loud Music" complaint. This time it resulted in a citation! "I've told you and told you and told you...turn that noisy thing DOWN!" Typically, citations aren't issued on these kinds of complaints unless you've been warned multiple times...or you have "an attitude!" SO...if you're gonna play it LOUD, be smart and be nice! If you're asked to turn it down, TURN IT DOWN! GOSH, courtesy 101!
*Police responded to a caller who wanted "Their Water Turned On!" Officers passed the request along to the Water Department, and it all "Came out in the Wash!"
*Officers were called to Stevenson and Avenue G...and it was probably something pretty juicy...but the Chief couldn't read the report! SO - if this one was about YOU consider yourself lucky! The officer's poor penmanship got you a break!
*Police responded to the 400th Block of Avenue H for a "Too-Loud, Noisy Party." This one resolved itself and said party-goers subdued their excitement.
*Officers were also called to "Wet-Blanket" a Birthday Party in the City Park. Cake, Ice Cream, Guns & Badges...poor combination. The party moved along.

*Police responded to a "Welfare Concern" at the 500th Block of East 2nd. Everything checked out OK.

*On the 500th Block of West 5th Police responded to a call of "Suspicious Activity." The officer didn't find anything out of the ordinary, which is, in and of itself pretty suspicious!
*Again at the 500th Block of East 2nd, Officers were called about "People walking around in the front yard..." The "people" were "gone" when police arrived.
*Police took a report on a "Civil Matter" at the Police Station, no details were provided.
Thursday, May 3rd
*The Chief described yesterday as a "busy day"...."All this stuff occurred yesterday, it was a slow day - ya know, we got to go to the school track meet and you know, just hang around there...then 3:30, 4 O'clock things just got busy..." --Chief Dennis Burton
*Officers responded to the call of a "Burglary of a Motor Vehicle." All property was recovered and officers made an arrest of a local juvenile. The 14 year old, male juvenile is now in custody of the Juvenile facility in Lubbock.
*On 400th Block of West 4th, officers responded to a report of juveniles "Throwing Rocks!" We inquired if they were throwing at people or things...the answer was "Both, but they didn't hit anything!" Obviously they weren't from the baseball team! AND...since they didn't get away - I guess they weren't very valuable assets to the Track Team! The kids got a good "Talkin' to" and they were sent on their way.
*Officers had a Local, Adult, Female "Turn Herself In" on warrants out of Plainview including "Public Intoxication" and "Criminal Trespass." Local officers obliged the lady and placed her under arrest and took her to Plainview. Maybe she just wanted to do the "Right Thing." Wonder how that worked out for her?!?
*Police responded to a call in the 500th Block of West 9th Street concerning a "Garage Door That Wouldn't Close!" Officers arrived on the scene and managed to take control of the situation, promptly getting the door down and secure. This case, and the door are now considered...Closed!
Wednesday, May 2nd
*Police had investigated a "Suspicious Vehicle" on the 400th Block of West 4th Street. A "White Box-Type Truck" with "no markings on it" was seen backed into an area where it had no business and did not belong. Police still have an eye peeled for this vehicle and any others that look like they could be up to "no good!"
*On 1000th Block of South Lawn, "A Resident" complained to officers about "All The Darned Pot Holes!" Officers expect to collar one of the alleged pot holes sometime later today and "Fill said Pot hole in" on the "Pit"-falls of just laying in the middle of the road. AND...we wouldn't make THIS stuff up!
I believe it was Mr. Lester Carr who said, "You can't Dig a hole....You can only Dig the ground...what is left is the hole!"
Tuesday, May 1st
*Police had a report of "Lost Property" at the 600th Block of East 9th. Seems somebody left "something" on top of their car and drove away...then when realizing it wasn't still there...called the Men in Blue! Most likely not a "Big Gulp" like we've all done - but maybe a purse or wallet. Reminds me of my favorite "Born Loser" Cartoon - remember those? Frame 01; The subject walking happily down the street with a flower pot on his head. Frame 02; Rounding the sidewalk corner to his house - flower pot still on his head. Frame 03; Enters his home, flower pot still on his head and hears his wife call out, "Dear, is that you?...The Florist called and said you forgot your hat!
*Officers answered an "Agency Assist" call, this time from CPS. Though the officers aren't always needed to participate in these assists - they still are called to abserve and stand-by. Another aspect of all the scenes your Police Officers have to take to bed with them each night.
*Officers wrote a "Criminal Trespass Warning" at the department. The Police Scanner had a lot of disturbing activity yesterday (from surrounding communitiues) the worst of which was domestic violence - against women AND children. If you're in an abusive situation PLEASE tell someone. Have our Police Department write up a "Criminal Trespass Warning" and keep yourself and others safe. Remember Terrorism is illegal...and yes, Physical AND verbal abuse is a form of terrorism!
*Police were called to another sad situation on an (APS) "Adult Protective Services Assist." Without going into too much detail, if you believe you've witnessed an adult, elderly or not - living in a way that could be hazardous to themselves or others it doesn't hurt to tell one of your local police officers. As we learn here everyday, they've just about seen it all and they are experienced and familiar with what can and should be done in most situations.
Monday, April 30th
*Yesterday's report was short, but exciting:
HCPD responded to a "Multi-Vehicle (2) Crash Site" actually described as a "minor accident" in the 500th Block of West 4th Street. "No injuries or anything" --Chief Burton.
The Jaws of Life were not required and the HazMat Team was not dispatched. Traffic was diverted and no significant impact was reported on drive-time traffic in the city.
Sunday, April 29th
*In the 500th Block of East 13th Some "Lug Nut" threatened somebody with a tire tool! Apparently the assailant was "Tired" of the potential victim's "Inflated Talk!" Waving a tire tool around is a good way to get "Busted!" Get it...Busted! Hahahaha! Hey, it's Monday, you wanna do this stuff?

*And Police investigated a "Suspicious Vehicle" in the 1300th Block of Avenue K.

Thursday, April 26th
*Local Officers filed a report of a "Juvenile Runaway" from the 600th Block of 9th Street. The Juvenile has since been located.
*Police responded a report of "Road Rage" incident on Interstate 27. Sally & I monitored this report and subsequent stop on the police scanner. In all diplomacy may I say, "What Idiots!" This driver was tailgating and flashing his or her lights while traveling at or above posted speeds on the interstate...obviously because they didn't like the way someone was driving! NEVER a good idea! The other driver called it in and the aggressive driver was stopped and issued several warnings. No matter how mad you are, or how "bad" you may believe you are...you could cause an accident, get arrested or very possibly get SHOT! Remember, there may only be one person on Earth meaner and tougher than you...and they could be in that other car. Idiot! (written by Anonymous!)
*On the 400th Block of Avenue E officers looked into a car that was "Impeding Traffic." The car had pooped out in traffic and was moved.

Wednesday, April 25th
*There was a report of another "Suspicious Vehicle" on the corner of Avenue K and Cleveland. Police are still following up on this one. This car is said to have shifty headlights and a growling rear-end. We're talking suspicious! It seems the car's identification implied that it was incognito, leaving authorities to investigate if the car is kidnapped or a runaway. We'll have more on the news at 10.
*Police responded to the 400th block of Avenue A on a "Runaway Juvenile" This too is an ongoing investigation and being treated more as a "Welfare Concern."
*One of the officers who was "Very Busy" yesterday seemed to have misplaced his "Call Sheet." Other officers are assisting in the search for the missing call sheet. I guess this entry on the report is about missing entries on the other report...make any sense? Hey, Some days are exciting, some days we have to fluff things up a bit.
Tuesday, April 24th
*On the 200th block of West 3rd street, Officers were called to assist with a "Combative Patient." The patient was subdued and transported to a better-equipped facility for their condition.
*On FM 1424 police responded to a residential security alarm. The alarm seems to have been false. City officials are looking into accessing a charge for excessive false alarms as is the case in other cities. This does not mean every call, just after "X" amount of consecutive false alarms.
*Officers responded to the 300th block of Avenue K on a "Welfare Concern"... The person was OK.
*Police were called yet again - this time to the 400th block of West 6th on a "Residential Security Alarm." Police reported no intrusion. (except for the intrusion of their do-nut break for a false alarm!) Again, the home was secure - the donut however ended up being "slam-dunked."

*On the 300th Block of West 6th Police assisted a citizen to gain entry into his or her apartment as they had misplaced their keys and wisely provided a set to the Department beforehand. Wonder if I could get Dennis to keep a spare remote control to our TV?
*Officers responded to the 1100th Block of Avenue I to a call of "Kids Walking on People's Grass." It seems the kids had words with the owner and the owner had words with the kids and next thing you know...the kids were "On Grass!" "Ya see...that's how it gets started!" The kids were asked to stay off the owner's grass!
*On the 400th Block of West 3rd Police investigated a "Home Invasion Alarm." As impressive as that sounds, it turned out to be a "False Alarm."
*The police department answered a call to assist CPS
*Officers responded to a call on the 500th block of West 1st Street of some kids "Stealing Flowers." As benign as it sounds, it wasn't just a love-struck fool trying to procure a "favor" for his sweetheart, but rather a would-be delinquent; who "scooped up an entire thing of petunias that were planted!" The kids were "Talked To" and hopefully will find a more appropriate method of displaying that they "really dig flowers!"

Designated truck routes do not necessarily constitute designated parking. Like I'm told at most civic functions, "You can walk through...just don't get too comfortable anywhere."
*Officers acted again on another illegally parked semi-truck tractor on the 200th block of East Stevenson. Hello? Both drivers were given "Verbal Warnings"
*Sadly there was a report of a dog being hit by a car on East Stevenson Street. No dog was found at the reported location. Even though it is illegal for dogs to wander about in the city limits unattended and unleashed - we would like to encourage dogs that have been violated, such as in a "Hit And Run" to please make the report anyway. You may not receive immunity for wandering about illegally, but you can still do your part to prevent further violations of other dogs that may be bending the laws. No animal should be left for dead...even/especially if they are vagrant or homeless.
*In the 600th block of Avenue C some kids were found "Fooling Around" behind the Pharmacy. The kids were sent home and told to stop fooling around behind the pharmacy! What do they think alleys are for!"

*Officers were again called to the address at the 400th block of East 1st Street for an EMS assist but when EMS and Police arrived the subject had already been taken to the hospital by a private means of transportation.
We will put in a call to DPS to see if there is more to the arrest of the two men on drugs later today. Check back for more "Juice" should there be any. Enjoy your safe weekend and be sure to check back Monday to see what happened over the Weekend! Hope we're not writing about YOU!
Wednesday, April 18th
*"All right, in the 500th block of west 2nd we had a 'Welfare Check' ...ahh, everything was fine. Uhmmm...
*500th block of west 10th we had ahh-nuther 'Welfare Concern...' - Everything was fine..."
NOTICE how we delved right into today's report with direct quotes from the Chief, himself! A technique we'll not use often, rather a "creative license" that we'll, from time-to-time exercise for dramatic effect.
*Officers responded to a call on 1300th Block of Avenue G concerning a citizen who felt he was being the victim of a "Money Scam." *Finally, in a related story, this past weekend it was reported that a business from Plainview was going door-to-door passing out business cards offering to buy people's GOLD:
--Chief Burton "Yeah, They said they weren't soliciting, even to do so, ah, people (residents) need to know that any solicitors are supposed to have a Solicitation Permit issued by the City of Hale Center. So if somebody's knocking on the door -- residents have the right to ask to see their Solicitation Permits."
You are encouraged to do so to keep door-to-door sales people on the up-and-up. If you are interested in obtaining a Solicitation Permit for selling in the City of Hale Center, see Kamy Eady, City Secretary at City Hall.
Tuesday, April 17th

The offence was described as "Harassment By Texting" which now carries the same penalties as any other type of bullying or Harassment and is punishable as a Class B Misdemeanor. Second offence elevates to a Class A offence which could result in $4000.00 fine and up to a year in jail. *Police were called to the 400th Block of East 13th for a "Civil Stand-By." More insight to the "less glorious" aspects of their jobs...in maintaining the peace officers are called to maintain civility as families break up and go their separate ways.

*Officers responded to the 500th block of Avenue H on a "Curfew Concern." On the scanner recently we monitored a call of a vehicle, southbound on I-27 traveling the WRONG WAY! (It was southbound in the northbound lane)...As scary as that was, we had to laugh when the officer (not one of ours) called back in and ask dispatch to DESCRIBE THE VEHICLE! Hello! It's the one headed toward your windshield!!
*Again, on 4th and Main Street, Police responded to a "Motorist Assist" call where a car apparently had their starter go out and needed to be towed - our cops helped the folks get it together and get on their way. Now don't ya feel bad about what ya said about 'em when they wrote ya up last time? Huh?....
Tuesday, April 3rd

*It was reported to Officers that; At the 300th block of Main Street "The Clerk was being Rude." It seems the clerk was being called "bad names" so he advised them that he did have the right to refuse them service. The customers said the clerk did NOT have such rights, prompting the "clerk" to display to them - his badge (from his day-job.) The customers decided they weren't really in the mood for burritos after all and left.
*Police were called to the west service road and Cleveland Street - on a "Motorist Assist" call where they helped the motorist "wind his/her car back up" and got him/her on their way.

Friday, March 30th
*Police were advised of a "Possible Theft" in the 300th block of Cleveland. Details on this call were sketchy, but it sounds like a call in 1989 in Weatherford, TX when a hot "Strawberry Blond" (Sally) in a Porsche Coupe "Stole My Heart!" There really was a "possible theft" reported...the officer just didn't elaborate.
*Officers responded to the 1200th block of east 13th on a "noise complaint." This could be noisy mufflers, loud music or the after effects of Mama's Chile...again, officers didn't elaborate.

*HCPD Assisted at the roadside park South of the city on a domestic disturbance with a "possible gun" involved.
Thursday, March 29th
*At FM 1914 and Avenue P (west of the city) HCPD responded to a "noise concern." Chief Burton described the situation as "the Gas Company cleaning out their lines..." - I thought to myself, "Sally could have called that one in on me last night!" Turned out to be scheduled maintenance, though the county received multiple noise complaints. "Nothing to see here!"
*Thursday provided several traffic stops and a truancy call. One day next week the Chief will provide us with a list of traffic stops - citations & warnings for the month of March. (Don't start sweating; no names will be published...until your name appears on a warrant for "no-pay!")
*Police responded to a call from the 400th block of east Stevenson for a motorist assist. "To Serve And Protect!"

*Police responded to a report in the 100th block of west 4th about a tractor-trailer in the city. There are designated tractor-truck routes in our fair city - they cannot park the "Big Rigs" in the residential areas on the streets OR on private property. This ordinance was passed in January of 2012 to protect the city streets from undue wear & tear and our fine citizens from the unpleasant noise element. Chief Burton spouted off, "City Ordinance #2011 dash 1-1-1-4" like he was Dan Aykroyd or something!
Wednesday, March 28th
*Police started their day off with what easily could have been one of the most dangerous and newsworthy calls of the year; A residential alarm was tripped in the 300th block of West 6th. Officers arrived on the scene. There were no injuries or arrests and no property had been taken - in fact, in the words of the Chief, "Everything was fine..." *Police responded to a call from the 300th block of west 10th Street on a domestic call. No further details were recorded.

Editor's Note: When you see our officers today around town, I hope you'll bear in mind that last call...and remember, they are not just the guys that ruin your loud party, make you pour out your beer and slow you down when you're speeding - They're also the guys who are there when your grandma or grandpa falls, or needs help and you can't be there! 'When you wave at these guys today...use all four fingers!"
Tuesday, March 27th
*HCPD started their day off with a call to I-27 and Main Street to round up some loose goats "out by the service road." When we inquired of the resolve we were told, "We herded 'em up and got 'em back inside the fence" ...and the goats tasted very good!"

*Officers were called to the 500th block of West 13th Street on a "Terroristic Threat." As ominous as this sounds, the Chief advised us that the complaint-type in question was known as a "Terroristic Threat" even before 9-1-1. In this case it involved an individual threatening to put his foot in an inappropriate place on another individual. Somewhat of a "Shoe-Bomber if you will."

*Police were requested for an "Agency Assist" for the EMS at the Senior Citizens Center. Personnel at the Center advised us that one of the guests/members slumped over and passed out unexpectedly. She had regained consciousness by the time EMS arrived but was transported to Covenant Hospital in Plainview by Hale Center EMS at the request of a family member. The person's name is not being revealed, as we have not yet spoken with the family.

*Officers were called to 400th block of the West access road for a verbal domestic disturbance. No arrests were made.
Friday, March 23rd
*Police were called to the 500th block of East 2nd on a welfare check. We inquired, "What is a Welfare Check?" I thought it was what my granny used to get on the first of each month. Chief Burton described it as a "Check of someone's Welfare." We may NEVER learn this PD lingo!
