Joe D Armstrong
Celebration of Life will be Monday, April 30, 2018

(04/20/18 Insider Obituary Archives) - Joe D Armstrong went to meet his maker on April 18, 2018. He was born on March 22, 1938, to Josephine (Bee) Armstrong and D.H. Armstrong in Pecos, TX. A celebration of life will be held at the First Baptist Church of Hale Center at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 30. Pastor Kris Knippa will be presiding.

Joe graduated from Pecos High School in 1956. He served for three years in the National Guard. Later he attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, and received a Bachelor's degree in Spanish and a Master's degree in English.

Joe was a man of many trades: farmer, cattleman, stock broker, investor and school teacher for Hale Center ISD, where he touched the lives of countless young people. He was a proud Mensa member and cardholder. He attended the First Baptist Church of Hale Center where he taught Sunday School.

Joe married the love of his life, Wilton Graef on December 26, 1987 and became a mentor, friend and step-dad to her children and Abuelo to her grandchildren.

Joe loved his family and always looked forward to family gatherings and to being the auctioneer at family reunions.

He will be remembered for his sense of humor, life's anecdotes and his beautiful harmonica rendition of Amazing Grace.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, brother James Frances Armstrong and sister in law Raneal Perry. He is survived by his wife Wilton, brother Gail B. Armstrong and wife Ellen of Austin, step children Leisa Graef Fudge (Barney) of Burkburnett, TX, Brent Graef (Kris) of Canyon, TX, David Graef of Nashville, TN, Carl "Sid" Graef (Denise) of Missoula MT, 7 grandsons and 4 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Baptist Church (305 W 6th St, Hale Center, TX 79041) or Hospice of Lubbock (3702 21st St, Lubbock, TX 79410).
